Third Period Haunts Thunder in Loss At Allen

Allen, TX (March 18th) - Wichita closed its five-game road swing on Saturday night, falling to Allen by the final of 4-2 at the Allen Event Center. The game was deadlocked at one heading into the third period, but the Americans scored three times in less than four minutes to skate away with the victory.

David Friedmann and Ryan Tesink scored goals for the Thunder and Jamie Doornbosch added two assists.

The Americans got on the board first just four minutes into the opening frame. Alex Schoenborn recorded his first goal in an Allen uniform as he fired a long wrist shot from just outside the circles and made it 1-0.

David Friedmann tied the game in the second. He took a pass from Louick Marcotte near the top of the left circle, skated into the slot and fired a backhand past the blocker of Jamie Murray to tie it at one.

Gary Steffes potted his 18th of the season at 3:21 of the third as he roofed a rebound after his initial tip was stopped by Scott Greenham's leg pad. The Americans made it 3-1 at 4:26 when Zach Hall fired a cross-crease pass home from Miles Liberati for his 10th of the season. Schoenborn added his second of the game at 7:06 when he caught a pass at the top of the left circle, stepped around a man to the slot and beat Greenham to make it 4-1.

Tesink notched his fifth of the year with just over four minutes left to cut the lead to two. He caught a long outlet pass up the bench wall, got around a defender and fired a wrist shot past Murray.

Wichita had a late power play when Harrison Ruopp was called for roughing and pulled Greenham for the extra attacker. Murray made a few key stops in the final minute and the Americans grabbed a 4-2 victory.

Doornbosch has assists in back-to-back games and three total over the weekend. Marcotte recorded a goal and an assist over the last two games. Greenham suffers the loss, stopping 27 of 31 shots. Murray earns the win, stopping 31 of 33 shots he faced.

Wichita went 0-for-7 on the power play. Allen was 2-for-4 on the man advantage.

The Thunder returns home for the next two games, beginning on Wednesday night starting at 7:05 p.m. against Quad City.
