Special Teams Propels Thunder Past Mavericks

Wichita, KS (Oct. 21st) - Wichita connected twice shorthanded and once more on the power play to skate past the Missouri Mavericks on Friday night by the final score of 4-1 at INTRUST Bank Arena. Four different players found the back of the net to help the Thunder claim game one in the Visit Wichita, Visit Independence Cup Series.

Jack Rodewald, Chris Rumble, Vincent Arseneau and Matt DeBlouw each recorded goals while Scott Greenham was terrific in net making 39 saves.

Missouri got on the board first just five minutes into the game when Darren Nowick got to a long rebound and made it 1-0. At 16:09, Rumble tied the game with a power play goal and his first of the season. He got a great feed at the right point, walked down the slot and beat Eamon McAdam with a wrist shot.

34 seconds into the second, Arseneau recorded his first in a Thunder uniform with a shorthanded tally from the top of the right circle. Jack Rodewald added to the lead at 2:49 with a beautiful wrist shot past McAdam for his second of the year and a 3-1 advantage.

The Thunder added one more shorthanded marker in the third. DeBlouw caused a turnover in the offensive zone that Alex Krushelnyski was able to corral, gave it back to the rookie for his first professional goal and a 4-1 lead.

Rodewald has goals in back-to-back games and finished with two points. Krushelnyski and Macoy Erkamps each had two helpers. Greenham claims his first win of the year, stopping 39 of 40 shots. McAdam drops his second of the year, stopping 29 of 33 shots he faced.

Wichita went 1-for-3 on the power play. Missouri was 0-for-8 on the man advantage.

The Thunder hits the road for the first time this season, beginning on Tuesday night at South Carolina.
