Second-Year DMan Labrecque Signs in Wichita

Wichita, KS (Sept. 20th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL Affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of defenseman Samuel Labrecque.

"I'm really excited to be coming to Wichita," said Labrecque. "I've heard good things about the organization, fans and coach. It was an easy choice when I decided to come back to North America."

Labrecque, 25, begins his second year as a pro after playing last year for Villacher SV in Austria (EBEL), which is considered one of the top leagues in Europe. A native of Granby, Quebec, the 5-foot-8, 182-pound blueliner recorded 26 points (13g, 13a) in 52 games last season.

"Sam is a dynamic offensive defensemen with a great shot," commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "He had tremendous success in university hockey and in his first year pro last season in a top European league. We look forward to seeing him with the Thunder. He will be attending AHL camp with the Toronto Marlies."

Prior to heading overseas, Labrecque played three seasons at Clarkson University (ECAC) before finishing his college career at McGill University (USports). He registered 42 points (17g, 25a) in 93 NCAA games with the Golden Knights. He transferred to McGill in 2014-15 and was named the McGill Athlete of the Year during his senior campaign, tallying 44 points (16g, 28a) in just 28 games. Labrecque reunites with his former college teammate, Etienne Boutet, who signed earlier this summer.
