West Valley City, UT (Jan. 25th) - Utah scored four times in the second period and knocked off Wichita on Wednesday night by the final of 6-2 at the Maverik Center.
The two teams combined for six second-period tallies as Blake Tatchell and Brandon Carlson scored for the Thunder.
Utah took advantage of an early power play when Louick Marcotte was called for a high stick for four minutes. The Grizzlies scored off a face-off at 9:50 when a pass hit a skate, ricocheted across to a wide-open Ralph Cuddemi and he make it 1-0.
Blake Tatchell scored early in the second period and tied the game at one. He caught a cross-ice pass through center, came down the right wing and beat Ryan Faragher with a wrist shot. Utah scored the next three as Michael Pelech, Jon Puskar and Brad Navin gave the Grizzlies a 4-1 advantage. Brandon Carlson cut the lead to 4-2 with a minute to go in the third as he fired a slap shot through a screen at the top of the left circle. Puskar scored just 11 seconds later and Utah took a 5-2 lead into the locker room.
Puskar added his third of the game after Utah won a face-off at 15:16 of the final frame. He tipped home a shot from the blue line to make it 6-2.
Tatchell notched his fourth of the year while Carlson collected his second of the season. Patterson suffered the loss, stopping 18 of 22 shots. Faragher grabbed the win, stopping 18 of 20 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Utah was 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
