Second Period Dooms Thunder in Loss to Mavs

Wichita, KS (April 1st) - Missouri scored four times in the second period and skated away with an 8-2 win over Wichita on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Zach O'Brien led the way for the Thunder, scoring twice in the first period.

Missouri took an early lead after Ian Lowe was called for a cross check. Rocco Carzo found the net on the power play at 1:39 to make it 1-0. He tipped a shot near the net from Dane Fox to record his first of two on the night.

O'Brien tied the game and gave the Thunder the lead with back-to-back goals a few minutes later. His first was a highlight reel tally as he fell to his knees near the Missouri line, got back to his feet and beat Zach Nagelvoort with a slap shot at 2:35. His second came at 5:18 as he streaked up the left wing and blasted a shot past his glove to make it 2-1. Jesse Graham tied the game at 10:25 with a slapshot from the top of the left circle.

The Mavericks grabbed control of the game in the second as they lit the lamp four times. Jacob Doty scored the eventual game-winner at 2:19 with a tip near the net. Dane Fox made it 4-2 at 4:46 with his first of two. Shawn Pauly slid one past Drew Owsley to make it 5-2 and that forced him out of the game. Scott Greenham came in, but didn't fare much better as Carzo tallied his second of the night at 10:27 to make it 6-2.

Missouri added two more in the third as Radoslav Illo and Fox found the net and closed the scoring at 8-2 in favor of the visitors.

O'Brien has four points in the last two games. Melindy netted a pair of assists. Owsley suffers the loss, stopping 17 of 22 shots. Nagelvoort grabbed the win in his first pro start, stopping 31 of 33 shots he faced.

Wichita went 0-for-1 on the power play. Missouri was 3-for-4 on the man advantage.
