Rally Comes Up Short in Loss at Rapid City

Rapid City, SD (Feb. 8th) - Wichita tried to rally back from a two-goal deficit, but came up short in a 2-1 loss to Rapid City on Friday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Taylor Cammarata scored in regulation and had a chance to tie the game with one second remaining as he was awarded a penalty shot, but Tyler Parks came up big for the home team.

Wichita had three power play chances in the first 20 minutes, but couldn't get one past Parks. Rapid City led in the shot department after one by a count of 11-8.

Rapid struck first at 9:11 of the second. Montminy found a rebound near the Thunder net after Ty Rimmer made a tough save and slid it through for his first of the frame. His second came at 15:58 as he collected a pass during a two-on-one break and fired it past Rimmer to make it 2-0.

Cammarata got the Thunder on the board late in the third. He caught a pass across the slot and buried it on the power play to make it a 2-1 game. With one second remaining, Parks was called for a delay of game for knocking the net off and Wichita was awarded a penalty shot. Cammarata was chosen to be the shooter, but he was denied by Parks. The Thunder had one last face-off, but the horn sounded and Rapid City took the win.

Cammarata registered his first in a Thunder uniform and 13th of the season. Rimmer played a solid game despite the loss, stopping 28 of 30 shots he faced.

Wichita remains in the Black Hills to take on the Rush tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m. CST.
