O'Brien Nets Two in 3-1 Win vs. Rapid City

Wichita, KS (Oct. 21st) - Zach O'Brien scored twice, Kyle Platzer added two points and Joel Rumpel made 24 saves to help the Thunder preserve a 3-1 win over Rapid City on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Wichita scored first to grab a 1-0 lead when Kyle Platzer snagged a rebound near the left post and beat Christian Frey at 10:33. Zach O'Brien added to the advantage as he caught a pass in the slot from Matt DeBlouw and blew it by Frey to make it 2-0.

Darik Angeli cut the lead to one late in the second as he caught a long pass in front of the penalty boxes, skated away from Jeremy Beaudry and beat Rumpel underneath the arm and made it 2-1. With 11 seconds to go, Kyle Platzer calmly fed a pass to the line for Guillaume Lepine and he wired one towards the net that got through to make it 3-1. O'Brien was credited with a tip on the shot for his second of the contest.

Rapid City pulled Frey twice in the final minutes, but Rumpel and the Thunder defense were too strong and Wichita grabbed a 3-1 win.

DeBlouw and Platzer pushed their scoring streaks to three games and O'Brien netted his first two of the season. Rumpel improves to 2-0 with a 24-save performance. Frey stopped 31 of 34 shots in the losing effort.

Wichita went 0-for-3 on the power play. Rapid City was 0-for-1 on the man advantage.

The Thunder remain at home tomorrow afternoon to host the Rush starting at 4:05 p.m.
