Wichita, KS (July 26th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today that forward Louick Marcotte has re-signed for the 2017-18 season.
"Last year was more of a learning year, but I am very happy to be back in Wichita," stated Marcotte. "Our fans deserve a great year of hockey and I will do everything in my power to do so. I can't wait to get things started."
Marcotte, 23, returns to Wichita to begin his third year as a pro. A native of Longueuil, Quebec, the 6-foot-1, 201-pound winger led the team in goals (18), tied for second in assists (20) and tied for the team-lead in points with 38. He set new career-highs in all three categories after spending his rookie season in Adirondack.
"Louick is a big body winger with a quick and accurate release," commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "I believe he has the capability of scoring 25-30 goals and he would have done so if he didn't have to fight some nagging injuries last season. He can score a variety of ways and we look forward to him building on his numbers from last season."
Prior to turning pro, Marcotte had a stellar junior career in the QMJHL with Prince Edward, Val-d'or Foreurs and Gatineau. He registered 255 points (119g, 136a) in 277 career games with his best season coming in 2013-14 when he was one of only five players that racked up 100 or more points (42g, 58a). Marcotte was third in QMJHL postseason scoring that season, tallying 37 points (12g, 25a) in 24 games en route to winning the league title.
Marcotte becomes the eighth player announced this offseason and joins Matt DeBlouw, Dyson Stevenson, Jeremy Beaudry, Travis Ewanyk, Etienne Boutet, Justin Hamonic and Istvan Sofron on the roster.
The 26th season of Thunder hockey kicks off on Friday, October 13th against the Indy Fuel.
