Logan Nelson Returns To Air Capital

Wichita, KS (Sept. 22nd) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators and powered by Toyota, announced today the re-signing of forward Logan Nelson to the roster for the 2016-17 season.

"Logan has good size and was a solid offensive contributor in Junior and his first year pro," said Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "He didn't have the season he wanted last year and is very motivated for this upcoming season. He fits the mold of the type of player's we want here with the Thunder."

Nelson, 23, was acquired last November in a trade with the Quad City Mallards. The third-year forward recorded five points (4g, 1a) in seven games with the Mallards and added 16 points (9g, 7a) in 47 games in Wichita to finish the season. He had a solid rookie season in 2014-15, scoring 16 goals and adding 12 assists in 43 games for Quad City.

"I'm very excited and proud to be a part of the 25th anniversary season," commented Nelson. "It's always nice to come back to a familiar area and play in a community that loves their team. I'm ready to win and Coach Cameron has proven himself a winning coach . With over four seasons with 40 wins and also bringing his team to the playoffs seven of eight years, I'm excited for a turnaround this season and for Coach to bring that winning mentality to Wichita."

A native of Rogers, Minnesota, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward is a former fifth round draft pick (#133) of the Buffalo Sabres during the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Prior to turning pro, Nelson played three seasons for the Western Hockey League's Victoria Royals, where he piled up 159 points (60g, 99a) in 179 games. His best season came during the 2011-12 campaign, when he collected 62 points (23g, 39a) in 71 games.

He becomes the 19th player added to the preseason roster, joining Louick Marcotte, Mitch Holmberg, Ian Lowe, Alexis Loiseau, Gerrad Grant, Landon Oslanski, Dalton Reum, Vincent Arseneau, Drew Owsley, James Melindy, Matt DeBlouw, Blake Tatchell, Greg Amlong, Ryan Tesink, Alexis Vanier, Brad Cuzner, Jack Rodewald and Tommy Veilleux.

The Thunder kicks off their 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, October 15th against the Tulsa Oilers. Season tickets are on sale now. Place a $25 deposit for up to four seats and pay it off in 14 payments. Contact a Thunder representative at the office today.
