Grant Re-Signs in Wichita

Wichita, KS (August 16th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today that forward Gerrad Grant (Jared) has re-signed for the 2017-18 season.

"I'm very excited to be back in Wichita for a second year," commented Grant. "With the newcomers and returning guys, I think this year will be a good one for the Thunder. I'm looking forward to getting things underway."

Grant, 27, returns to Wichita after recording 20 points (6g, 14a) in 67 games during his rookie campaign. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder turned pro last year after playing five seasons at Saint Mary's University. He finished with 53 points (17g, 36a) in 125 career games for the Huskies and also added five goals in 19 playoff games. He helped Saint Mary's take the bronze medal at the 2016 University Cup.

"Gerrad is a versatile player that can play multiple roles on our team," stated Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "He is a solid penalty killer and plays every game the same way. He can be counted on each and every night."

Before heading to Canadian University, Grant played three years for the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads, where he collected 90 points (42g, 48a) in 192 career games. His best season came during the 2009-10 campaign, recording 48 points (22g, 26a) in 64 games.

The 26th season of Thunder hockey kicks off on Friday, October 13th against the Indy Fuel.
