HEAD TO HEAD - This is the 11th meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Americans. All-time, Wichita is 18-32-6 against Allen and 9-18-1 on the road in the series.
TODAY - Wichita ends a three-game mini series today against the Allen Americans. Last night's contest was a complete opposite of Friday's 1-0 nail biter. Wichita hopped out to a 3-1 lead, but Allen stormed back and claimed a 7-4 win, scoring four goals in the third with two from Aaron Gens. After today, Wichita will make one final trip to Allen on March 12th and 13th to close out the season-series. The Thunder are looking for their first win of the season against the Americans this afternoon. Chad Costello leads the way for the Americans against Wichita with 19 points (5g, 14a) while Chris Crane has 12 points (8g, 4a) including a pair last night. Kale Kerbashian had a hat trick last night and has nine points (4g, 5a) against Allen.
SHOOTING GALLERY - Despite the score on Friday night, Wichita and Allen played an exciting contest that saw the two teams unload 77 shots on the two goaltenders. Joel Rumpel claimed his second shutout of the season, stopping all 48 shots while Sean Bonar was just as good at the other end. 48 shots were a season-high for Wichita and also saw 21 in the second period, also a single period high this year. Last night, the two teams had five goals on just 13 shots in the first 11 minutes of the game.
CLOSE CALL - Allen leads the season-series, winning all nine games so far. Each contest has been competitive with five of the last eight meetings between the Thunder and the Americans being decided by a goal and the last trip for Wichita down to the AEC was a one-goal game late before an empty-netter sealed the outcome. Wichita is 8-9-6-5 in one-goal games this year.
HATS OFF - Kale Kerbashian recorded his first hat trick of the season last night. The two teams combined for 11 goals on 57 shots. Wichita found the net three times in the first while Allen scored four in the third period. Chris Crane finished with a pair of goals while Aaron Gens also had two. Kenton Miller had a goal and two assists for the Thunder.
