Wichita, KS (March 22nd) - Wichita couldn't climb out of a first-period hole and lost on Wednesday night to Quad City by the final of 5-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Mallards flew out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and added two in the third to claim their second win of the season against the Thunder.
Maxime St-Cyr recorded two points and Louick Marcotte added his 14th goal of the season.
Chris Francis got things started two minutes into the game as he skated up the left wing, got near the net and put a wrist shot off the post past Scott Greenham. Michael Parks scored the next two just four minutes apart. He scored off a face-off at 8:38 to make it 2-0 and then extended the Mallards' lead to 3-0 at 12:52.
Drew Owsley came on in relief and Wichita responded. Maxime St-Cyr gave the Thunder some life as he put home a rebound near the right hashmark, beating C.J. Motte at 13:49.
After a scoreless second, Marcotte cut the lead to one early in the third period. St-Cyr won a face-off and Marcotte buried it past Motte to make it 3-2.
Francis tallied his second of the game at 12:02 to help the Mallards re-gain a two-goal advantage. He picked off an outlet pass near the left circle and beat Owsley to make it 4-2. Wichita pulled Owsley with less than a minute, but the Mallards added a power play goal as Parks tallied the hat trick into an empty net for the 5-2 victory.
