Chase Returns to Wichita

Wichita, KS (August 30th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of forward Greg Chase for the 2018-19 season.

"Greg is a dynamic, offensive player that has tremendous speed," commented Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "When he was traded last season, it left a large hole in our lineup and we're extremely happy to have him back in Wichita this season. Having coached against Greg in the WHL and seeing him with us last season, I know his capabilities and his potential for a great season."

Chase, 23, was assigned to Wichita last season by the Edmonton Oilers and appeared in 17 games. He registered seven goals and 17 points before he was traded to the Florida Panthers in mid-December. Chase finished the season with the American Hockey League's Springfield Thunderbirds, collecting five points (2g, 3a) in 24 games.

"I'm excited to be back in Wichita," stated Chase. "My experience there last year was nothing but positive. Coach Malcolm and the guys were very welcoming. We had a lot of success as a team and with a lot of those guys returning, I'm looking forward to getting the year started."

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native isn't a stranger to the ECHL, playing in 43 games for the ECHL's Norfolk Admirals in 2015-16, collecting 37 points (18g, 17a) as well as playing in 19 games for the Bakersfield that same season. He spent the entire 2016-17 season with the Condors, recording 14 points (3g, 11a) in 48 games. Overall, Chase has piled up 54 points (25g, 29a) in 60 games in the ECHL. He also has 97 games of AHL experience, tallying 27 points (7g, 20a) in 97 games.

"My expectations for this year is for us to win as many games as possible and make a run at the title. We have the tools to do so. We just need to perform. I've been skating a couple times a week during the summer with that increasing as fall approaches. I've been training five days a week and started to skate everyday. It makes me want to be in Wichita and get this season going."

A former seventh round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot, 190-pound forward had a productive junior career in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen. His best season was in 2013-14 when he racked up 85 points (35g, 50a) in 70 games. Overall, he registered 221 points (78g, 143a) in 265 games. Chase also played for the Canada Pacific U17 team in 2011-12 and added six points (1g, 5a) in five games.
